Settle into your body-mind-spirit and call it home.
Carol Lee, LMHC-D
You've been fluent in everyone else's expectations. You're here to figure out your own.
You feel "bad" when you aren’t productive and "wrong" when you try to rest, striving to meet standards of worth and appearance that were never designed for you.
You feel unrooted and misunderstood.
Balancing diverse values, family and societal expectations, relationships, and your own needs leaves you feeling scattered, fatigued, and constantly "behind.”
You’ve spent so much energy making sure everyone else is okay that the link to your true desires has become distant and muffled.
After years of being told your feelings weren't valid, it’s hard to know how to trust your own body and mind again.
Your internal world feels like a conflict of operating systems, such as East versus West or neurodivergent versus neurotypical.
Whether it’s the friction of switching tasks, the sensory intensity of the space around you, or the constant noise of racing thoughts, you feel like you’re running on empty.
You've accomplished things. You've tried hard. But accepting where you are as enough feels like something you've never quite been able to do.
Maybe you have been ...
A Person Between Ambition and Direction
An Independent and Reliable Person
A Perceptive Observer with Intense Feelings Inside
A Dreamer Waiting for the "Right" Version of Yourself to Show Up
Hi, I am Carol ! 愷媃!
If you read through the "You feel..." and "Maybe you have been..." sections above, I have a confession: those were once my own internal monologues, and I felt every bit of that weight in my own mind and body.
My search for a way out eventually led me to professional training as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor, yet the true shift came from exploring who I am and how I want to live. I’ve been building a life of agency I once thought unreachable.
That is why I founded ROU Like Water. I work with Asian and Asian American adults, in English and Mandarin, who are done carrying what they have been carrying and want to get clear on what is actually theirs. Many of the people I work with have spent years meeting expectations that were never theirs, absorbing standards from every direction, and wondering why none of it has felt like enough.
The work is specific to you. We look at what is keeping you where you are, where that came from, and what a different way of being might actually feel like. That is what we figure out together.
